Hola, hi, hello! Allow me to introduce myself... I am Niki’s obnoxious laughing, beach loving, wine enthusiast, blonde other half. Oh and my name is Alex, I guess I shouldn’t forget that part, hey? I am so excited that Niki has invited me to be a guest on her fabulous new blog. From starting up Cocktail Caddy and now Fill Your Cup, I couldn’t be more proud and lift my glass to her (over and over and over of course)!
Niki has been so supportive of me in all aspects of my life, especially on my new journey of starting my own blog, “Everyday A.” On my platform I celebrate the sweet moments that bring me happiness in my everyday life. This includes everything from tasty food and cocktail recipes, to home decor and so much more.
I have always been a creative being and everything I share is authentic to me and my passion for the simple things in life. Feel free to come over to my little space on the internet and hang sometime, I’d love to have you!
Enough about me... it's time to spill the tea on how Niki and I met and became besties!
Niki and I have been best friends for years now; but it didn’t always seem like it was going to be that way in the beginning. We first met while working at the same restaurant and I remember seeing her walk in for her first training shift in deep pink lipstick and sky high heels. Instantly, I thought to myself, me and this girl are not going to gel. Little did I know, she was thinking the exact same thing when she saw me!
Fast forward a few weeks and we happen to be on the same shift... an awful shift to be honest. It was simply, “one of those days,” where every task seemed to be extra difficult. Both of us being extroverts had the thought, “I need a drink,” and decided to have a quick glass of wine at the bar together to unwind after our less than satisfactory day.
I am not exaggerating when I say within 10 minutes of us sitting down, with very low expectations I might add, we were laughing so hard our stomachs hurt and we proceeded to order a bottle instead of a glass. The night continued and our laughs vibrated off the walls attracting people who thought we had been friends our whole lives.
Next thing we know, we are approached by none other than the famous, “Mr. Old fashioned” accompanied by his handsome friend, “Hawaii” and friendly “Grey Shirt." Don’t judge... I know all of you have little nicknames that only you and your girlfriends will understand to describe guys you just met. So, we join them for a drink of, you guessed it... a round of stiff old fashioned cocktails.
As time passes, I start to notice Niki sinking lower and lower into her chair and my motherly instincts come out knowing this girl is “not okay” anymore. I made my way to the staff area of the restaurant to gather what I thought was her bag, but ended up to be SEVERAL bags. I’m not kidding, this girl brings everything she could possibly ever need and more with her everywhere she goes. Always ready for anything! It works for me because I know if we are out and I need anything... and I mean anything at all she has got me covered. Hey Nik, do you happen to have a tall handsome man who will treat me right in that bag of yours? Well I guess not anything. A girl can dream right ;)
I managed to gather all of her bags... really not sure how I even knew which ones were hers. Could it be fate??
I proceed to pick her up and nestle her comfortably into the backseat of a cab and ensure that the driver gets her home safe and sound. From that moment on, the rest is history. She knew I would always have her back... quite literally seeing as I physically picked her up.
We have been an unstoppable force of fun and laughter; the most perfect duo. I mean, we did have one fight and let me tell you, it was a big fight. We didn’t speak to each other for weeks, but we must have gotten it all out during that time because now we never fail to have the best time together.
With that being said, I want to share one of my go-to cocktail recipes with an added twist in ode to how we met and came to be besties. You guessed it... it's obviously a double ;) Without further ado, get your cocktail glass ready and let's enjoy this delicious maple cinnamon old fashioned!
Cheers, I sure hope you enjoy!!
Maple Cinnamon Old Fashioned
• 2 oz bourbon
• 1/2 oz pure maple syrup
• 3 drops of angostura bitters
• Fresh orange
• Dash of cinnamon
In a cocktail mixing cup, combine bourbon, pure maple syrup, bitters and a small dash of cinnamon. Stir the mixture until well combined. If you prefer a slightly sweeter cocktail, feel free to add 1 oz of pure maple syrup instead! Set aside.
Place a large ice cube into the cocktail glass (regular ice cubes are also totally fine to use as well if you don’t have a king cube ice tray at home).
Peal approximately a 3 inch long piece of orange. Squeeze the orange peel over the cocktail glass to release any oils and then apply it directly along the rim on the glass.
Pour the bourbon mixture over the ice and get to drinking!
I hope you will love it as much and Niki and I! Feel free to stop by my website for more recipes, home decor and beauty tips!
